Sculptural Mug with Porcelain Crystal Ridge & 24k Gold

$ 97.43

This one-of-a-kind ceramic mug is hand-carved from dark stoneware using the kurinuki technique, including its integrated handle formed by carving directly into the clay block. While grounded in utility, this vessel holds the spirit of sculptural exploration and quiet ritual. A textural ridge runs along one side of the mug, as if formed by erosion or a mountainside. Nestled into this ridge are two rows of individually sculpted porcelain crystals, carefully arranged in a dense cluster. The bases of the crystals are painted with 24k gold lustre, transitioning to a soft mother of pearl finish that catches the light with its iridescence. The mug’s interior is coated in a glossy rutile blue glaze, while the exterior is left unglazed but washed with black underglaze, giving the dark clay body a deep matt presence. This contrasts beautifully with the crystals and glossy interior. Fired three times, including a final lustre firing, this mug is a tactile, contemplative object. It is a piece of functional art, suitable for quiet rituals, daily tea or coffee, or simply as a sculptural vessel to be displayed and appreciated. Hand wash only.
