Sculptural Kurinuki Cup & Saucer with Crystal Detail

$ 90.66

A one-of-a-kind ceramic cup and saucer set, hand-carved using traditional Kurinuki technique. The cup is formed from dark stoneware clay, its exterior left unglazed but washed with layers of black underglaze to deepen the surface and heighten the contrast with the porcelain crystals. Inside, a deep, glossy blue glaze pools, creating a striking visual and tactile contrast. Porcelain crystal forms emerge from one side of the cup – suggestive of a handle, but deliberately incomplete. Each crystal is individually sculpted and attached to the cup and finished with 24k gold lustre at the base, transitioning to mother of pearl that shifts beautifully in the light. This is a tactile piece, made to be held gently in both hands. The crystals are decorative and not intended as a handle. The accompanying sculptural saucer has a carved, raw edge that evokes natural rock, with a cluster of porcelain crystals adorning one side. A glossy, blue glaze marks the cup’s resting place at its centre. This cup has my shortened signature ‘NTM’ carved on its base and my full signature on the base of the saucer. Each piece is fired three times, including a final lustre firing to seal the gold and pearl finishes – a slow, deliberate process that reflects the intention behind every detail. More than a vessel, this is functional art, created to bring stillness, light and meaning into everyday ritual, whether used or displayed. This listing is for one cup and saucer, in the final 2 images, it is the cup on the left hand side of the photo. Hand wash only.
