Choral Training & Tests

During their time in the choir all boys receive choral training. Once choristers have received their surplices they are encouraged to progress through the tests set by the Royal School of Church Music. These tests are set at three levels and those choristers who have passed the required tests are permitted to wear the corresponding ribbon and medal. In order, the levels are Light Blue, Dark Blue and finally Red. Your son will be given a test card to work for his medals. Please encourage him to take these tests, which take place before practice on Wednesdays. Progression through the levels will have an influence on how much a chorister will get paid.

A number of choristers go on and take the Bishop’s Chorister exam and on passing earn the right to wear the Bishop’s Chorister medal on a purple ribbon.
